About John...
John was a dedicated father, brother, lifelong teacher and mentor to many, and loyal friend to all.
Born in 1941 in the gold mining area of Nevada, John was the oldest of four and grew up with brother Dan and sisters Jeannie and Elsa. He was always curious, always learning, and forever searching for something new. He carried that attitude with him his whole life and encouraged many others to follow that path.
He developed an appreciation for Asian culture (and food!) after being drafted in the Vietnam War and learned Cantonese and Mandarin when he returned to the US. He spent time teaching math & science to underprivileged kids in Chinatown where he met many of the folks he calls friends even to this day.
John was an inventor and was always re-inventing and trying new ways to improve the world and himself. He made great contributions to the medical devices industry and was always on the cutting edge of technology. He loved his work and those he worked with, often crediting it as being one of the main things that kept him so young in body and mind.
He lived in the same close-knit neighborhood for 38 years and was Uncle John to all of the kids that grew up there. He enjoyed being able to help others in any way he could and often left his door open for anyone to drop in.
One of his greatest passions was flying and aerial photography. He would spend hours tinkering with his plane, installing the latest component he found or re-assembling some part he took off the previous visit. He loved his time in the pilots' seat and took magnificent photos wherever he went.
We were fortunate in that less than a month before he passed we were able to have an early 80th birthday celebration for him with almost all of his close family. We shared many stories, pictures, and laughter and will always cherish that time together.
